I’ve read several people’s comments about when their pullets are ready to start laying they sing an egg song to the roosters?? Also, I’ve read there is an egg song after they lay an egg. ive heard of that one, but not the other. Mine are almost at the age to lay and I haven’t noticed any song yet, but I am curious about this as this is the first I’ve ever heard of such a thing. Is this real? Any comments?

I just heard about this. It’s so strange. I guess I’ll keep listening. Cause my ladies are about ready to start laying and I have not heard them sing anything. They mostly just avoid my rooster and if he does try anything, they scream out and run. Although he does seem to be a gentleman compared to other roosters I’ve seen ..and not rough at all, just the second his foot comes up to step on their backs, they freak out and run.

Thanks for the link. That was very interesting.

Obviously a lot more on youtube, but this was the first one that popped up for me:

Sometimes one sings, sometimes multiple birds sing, sometimes it goes on for only a little while, other times they just go and go and go. Sometimes they sing before there's an egg.

It happens to sound somewhat similar (to me at least) to an alarm call, so always a good idea to glance out your window, if the coop is in line of sight of the house, to verify that it's not an alarm call.
