what is backyard raised chickens means for you ?

Well I did research before buying chicks and apparently not enough. When I bought my chicks my choices were barred rocks, sex links, Cornish cross, and a mystery bin. So I got a variety and quickly learned about the Cornish cross and almost regretted getting 5 of them. But when all of the chicks are done in the brooder a I will have 25 chickens all together. I am trying to talk the hubby into cooking a few of the Cornish cross for Easter. They're 6 weeks old and are huge!
Yeah, you'll need to process them soon. They don't tend to live longer than 8 weeks from what I understand.

To add my own two cents on the subject of owning chickens, we originally got a small flock with the intention of producing food for our own use, but since then, the chickens have become more of a large-scale endeavor. I'm presently trying to build up our flock enough that the eggs they lay will provide us with a steady income, since unemployment and under-employment are ongoing problems for our family. We also process meat for our own use, but I doubt I'll be in a position to sell it any time soon. I do have plans to start breeding--and possibly selling--chicks from rarer varieties that are hard to get around here. I don't know if there's any demand for them, though, so I will start small and see where it goes.

Even if I didn't have financial reasons for keeping chickens, I would probably still have them. I've discovered since we started keeping chickens that having them around mitigates my anxiety attacks. I'm anxious less often, my attacks are less severe, and I can usually quell the attack by spending some time with my chickens. That reason alone is enough for me to keep chickens--the rest is a bonus.

so , majority raising it for eggs , meat , pets

but i did not see anyone talk about show or breeding or gamefowls

Many people show their birds, but they are mostly in the breed specific forum.

We do not use chickens for "games" here. I suppose some people do it, but it is illegal and we should not discuss it on the found,as it is also against the rules.
Game fowl is a type of bird... I don't think he was pointing toward using them "games".
