What is Bob? EE or Ameraucana?

EE

P-Funk, I have six EE girls and one of them looks just like yours.

Definitely an EE. Not only is he not one of the Am accepted colors, but that's not a true pea comb.

He's very pretty, though! I wish I had kept one of my EE cockerels last spring! If I had known we'd be moving out of the city to a 40ac farm, I would have!

Well Bob and his lady who we have not names yet are taking up breeding cages

I took him early on in our chicken craze and now am thinking he will have to find a new home because he can't integrate back into the free range flock that he use to be a part of.

goodness I have so much to learn, now do EE lay a colored egg? I get so confused, I have gotten what they told me were ameracanas (sp?) but they have puffy checks like these, and I got them at the feed store. then I ordered some from a hatchery no puffy checks and they also lay a green egg so do they both lay greenish or blue eggs??? I need a couple different egg layers so I am just trying to figure all this out...thank you for letting me piggy back on this....

Some EE's do. It just depends on their genetics. That's why they're called the "rainbow layer" - you could get ANY colored egg! But the most common color is medium to minty green.
Their appearance isn't always the best indicator of what color egg they'll lay, but typically if they have green/slate legs and a comb close to pea, it's a good chance they'll lay colored eggs.

Any time you get a bird from a feedstore or hatchery labeled Ameraucana, Araucana, or "Americana" (as they like to lie), it will be a mongrel EE.

EE's can look like just about anything. They usually have green legs, puffy cheeks/beard, a partially pea comb, and wild type color - but they can of course stray from this.

so I am guessing that hatcheries are not good places to get hatching eggs or chicks. I want to get some good strong chicks in if possible eggs to hatch out... I want some giant buff cochins and some good white leggers..

I was thinking of useing a hatchery but wow there eggs are expensive... do you think there chickens are ok on like white leggers buffs and maybe some others..
