Usually the hen will start staying on the nest for hours, eventually not wanting to leave to eat, drink or poo ( you have to make them go outside at least once a day). They can go broody on eggs, rocks, golf balls and even nothing - remember these ARE chickens not members of Mensa. If they do have fertile eggs to sit on they will stay there till they hatch. It's much easier if mommy does it instead of using an incubator.

Just wanted to say hi, bc I live right over here between Woody Chapel and Dibble. I attend the Washington Methodist Church and like to support the schools even though I don't have kids going there. I belong to the Washington OHCE too. Anyway, I get kind of silly when I see Washington, OK.

Well I had me a little scare yesterday and from the help of all here I found out that my hen is broody. I have to make her go outside and eat, shut the coop up so she can't get back in. I am so glad she isn't sick.
Now the next question. What can I expect from her? Will she continue to lay eggs or is she done for now and just wants to sit. She is a Barred Rock.
