What is everyone planning on hatching this spring? 2009

Adam, I think there is the tiniest crack in my resolve to not pull out the bator till spring... you bad thing, making me think! LOL.

I am going to build a quality Delaware flock. Have my two girls about to lay now; need maybe four or five more girls and a spectacular cockerel for them since tonight we've having Chicken Stew a la Jake.

I have no room at the moment to add to the laying flock or the Blue Orpingtons so I'll need to wait awhile on that. I may sell some of my hatchery birds I'm not all that attached to (only have a handful of those) to make room for things I really want, one of which is get some hatching eggs from excellent quality Barred Rock stock (already spoke briefly to a breeder). And if a big space opened up, perhaps I will get some Porcelain D'Uccles in the future, but that's not set in stone. The main project for Spring is my Delaware flock.

Im planning on hatching some bbr oegb and some self blue oegb. Also, im hoping my mandarins lay this year, so i will be hatching lots of mandarins.

Im planning on hatching some of my light brahma, and salmon faverolle eggs. Plus some of my buff silkies in the late spring/early summer. I also would love to get some buff silkie eggs from bamachicken.

I intend on replacing my motley crew of a layer flock with BBS Orps, Light Brahmas, and Dorkings. And Ameraucanas. But I'll be hatching out more Silkies, Millies, and LOTS of chukar and quail in the Spring.

Anyone have instructions on building a large cabinet incubator like a 1502? I would have to spend $300-$400 in shipping alone to ship one up from the lower 48, and there are so few here in AK. I may have to build one.

2 dozen Welsummers

2 dozen Barnevelders

A dozen Blue Orpingtons

A dozen Ameraucanas

With my new incubator it tough to stop at 6 dozen..

I'm not supposed to be hatching anything this year-- but, ideally, I want to end up with some Sebbie Geese and some Muscovies... I'm trying really hard not to eye some of those Blue Cochin Giants...

Who am I kidding? I'm an addict!

I'm getting weak. I just went downstairs and dusted off the incubators, cleaned my table, organized supplies, and swept the floor. I'm all ready to hatch. I shouldn't, but I just can't help it.

my plans are:

Lavender Ameraucana roosters over split hens, hatch all the eggs as soon as they start laying.

Hatch most of my black and lavender bantam Ameraucana eggs

Waiting for black orp eggs to come to hatch them. both bantam and large fowl

I'm undecided on my Araucanas. I may sell them all, and work on something else.

I hatch and sell. But, some of the older birds will go to Camp Kenmore if I can't rehome them.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I've never stopped hatching...

I am hatching Olive Eggers for the first time this year--crossing plain black Marans with my beautiful Ameracauna roosters! I am excited to see what I get.

I have my own Black Coppers in the incubator now and should have a few hatches during late Dec and Jan. I also bought some Showgirls and they are developing nicely.

I will be hatching Giant Dewlaps, Sebbies, Miniature Silver Appleyards and Mandarins in white and normal starting in March all through springtime.

This is the first year I will be using Muscovies and Silkies to help out my incubators. The Brinsea is half full already!
