What would be good to disinfect with after a bout with coryza? Do i need to get every bit of poo & all out of the coup/run? Is bleach ok to mist everywhere. Sprinkle DE & lyme on the ground of the coup/run & work it in? Let me know what kills the germs.

Thanks, Angie:D

I don't know anything about chicken disease, but I would not use bleach. I am sure there is some other way of disinfecting.

Oxine is supposed to kill most every organism...even Marek's, I understand. It's concentrated...you only use 6.5 ounces per gallon, but it definitely is pricey to get the gallon. I don't think you're supposed to use lime with chickens. And yes, it's best to get as much biological material out of there as possible.

I've also read that it's an extremely helpful practice to remove your chickens from an area for at least 3 weeks a year, but most of us are unable to do so. I converted a horse stall to a temporary holding area for my layer flock and put them in there for 3 weeks, then sprayed Oxine solution liberally in the chicken run and coop. On the ground, walls, wire fencing, inside & outside the coop, etc. So far, so good...

at one of the meetings i went to for one of the chicken groups im in we had a guest speaker Dicky Richardson who is one of 4 pt testers in the state of texas he told us Nolvasan Solution is what they use any time they go to a location where there is a confirmed outbreak of any of the mojor poultry dieases he also told us to keep some in a spray bottle and we can spray our birds at shows or any visitors just to help make sure not to spread anything i believe its 1 ounce per gallon of water it is kinda costly i believe around 60 per gallon however i have seen it sold in 2 ounce containers which makes 2 gallons for around $5 just a thought hope at least some of this helps someone
