Anyone know what is hanging out of my chicken? Probably going to cull when my husband gets home but wondering if maybe it’s something that’s a simple fix? She keeps eating it and pulling out more and the other hens were to so I have no idea what it is or if it’s something important to her that they ate directly out of her 😢

I'm sorry about your hen.

I don't often suggest this, but I'd put her down. It looks like she has broken wing bone is sticking out. Her breast is also open not sure if that's her crop or liver I'm seeing.

She's been attacked by something like a predator, she needs to be moved from the flock they will take the opportunity to cannibalize her.

This is not an easy fix at all.

She pecked it some more and opened it up definitely her crop, unfortunately all I can do is keep her comfortable until 4 I run childcare out of my home and can’t do things like that in front of the children. But I’m keeping her as comfortable as I can until then 😥

I’m assuming this is the crop. She wouldn’t stop pecking so I covered it with some gauze.

I should also add this was just another hen that did this to her (they get locked up at night and nothing can get in) but she’s a meanie and likes to pick fights with everyone so she must have picked the wrong hen to fight with

Yet another reason I'd put her down.
She will need to be separated out and will need daily wound care and TLC for weeks/month or two.
That broken bone - extremely prone to infection. She will need antibiotics as well.

Open crop, you're going to have to fix that, or have a vet stitch it up. There's 2 layers there - the crop and the outer skin.

I don't see how another hen could do this, but o.k.
