What is happening with chick deliveries?

When I look online I see a lot of "currently unavailable" and "sold out" on hatchery websites, although I'm not aware of the hatcheries that supply our local feedstores having any shortages. but once the chicks get in the feedstores, they are GONE practically the minute they arrive. I bought a couple golden comets from a feedstore, went back to get another one three days later, ALL the chicks were gone-and there had been about fifty of them!

P.S. My local feedstore orders from Mt. Healthy

I got on board at the end of chic season last year does that make me

Last year they were selling out like crazy here, but it seems to be far greater this year. Atwoods gets theirs on wednesday and by sunday there are only a handful left. Bantams disappear almost immediately. As do the turkeys. One feed store has been waiting a month for their order and finally got it last week. TSC is supposed to be getting in their first order this weekend, I bet you anything it will be gone in the first two days. Good thing I'm done buying chics for the year

I think I will get a bator next year, or take a year off since we are hoping to move to more chicken friendly surroundings.

thanks everybody for posting your observations and replys. I've been traveling for work and just got home. Went to the feed supply store today for feed and saw DOZENS of people in there looking for chickes. They only had three varieties there, bantys, goose and turkeys. Very few chicks. As I was checking out, a nice family noticed all the chicken feed ( that's my nect topic) and wanted to know more about chickens. They were first timers. They really wanted eastereggers but no go this year. I told them I just happen to have EE chicks hatching this weekend and they want to buy them all.

Strange world!

How's this going to effect chicken feed prices and availability?

I have chicks coming April 27; I had to order them seven weeks in advance, but was glad to get them before August as I was told by Ideal. I am gathering supplies as I see them, but have looked for chick starter and found the shelf empty for the third time. I may start hording and selling on ebay!
