What is happening with chick deliveries?

Totally true for most people. Though we had been planning to get chickens for a couple of years now. We had to wait until we moved. (hard enough to move the horses without having to worry about chickens) Now that we actually have chicks on order I am totally amazed at how many people I talk to who want or are getting chickens. Its the new thing.

I have been dreaming of getting chickens each spring when chick days starts at Tractor Supply. But I didn't want to be one of those people who buy them cause they are cute, take them home and then don't know what to do with them and have them die or get rid of them. So I took a year or 2, got some books, cleared some land where I wanted a coop. Found this web site. Showed my husband all the good advise on here, and finally picked the breeds we wanted and ordered chicks. I can't wait till they come in mid April.

Some will get rid of them, but some will be hooked and become chickeneers forever.

I wanted chickens for the last 2 years, but had to wait until we moved to a legal area. Now we have a couple acres, so I ordered 15 adorable little ones. I'm sure there will be more chickens in my future!

Mine will be picked up on Monday from Meyer Hatchery. I can't wait!!

Wow-I guess I am glad I ordered my chicks in January! They came last week. I only ordered them so early because we had just bought our house and could 'finally' get chickens.

I am too much in the city to have a rooster, but if I could-I think I'd set up a little business selling fertile eggs and chicks! You could do great on Craigslist.

Wow, I am glad too that I ordered mine in January, I mainly did it that early though, because I wanted them sooner that the feedstores would have them. Mine came from Ideal , and so far so good, they were a week old monday.
But I agree, the economy is definitely helping/hampering the chick business.

Cackle has pushed my order back by one month and I am ordering rare breeds only. I do not know about the regular breeds, but we always put in our orders through a feed store because they all come at the same time in a Postal Truck that is full of chicks. I really think they use UPS to deliver to the separate towns these days.

Last year Hirsch feed got over 2,000 chicks on the same day at one store !!

I am looking forward to getting packing peanuts, but I think this year it may be a slim one.
