What is He Doing and Why?

Question: I have a little cockerel, about 8 weeks, possibly a week or two older, who enjoys hopping up on my hand to hang out. Well...lately he does this little...wiggle when he does. It looks like he is trying to, lol, have his little way with my hand. I'll push him off my hand when he does this.

Am I right in thinking that's what it is? My older flock with 11-week-old cockererls haven't started trying to mount the girls yet and it's not like I go around observing chicken matings so I don't quite know what it looks like for them. And why would he be trying to do this to my hand?

I've had 5 roosters, but none have ever done that, definitely not that early. But they are all a little different. Curious though.

It maybe he is trying to establish dominance with you or it maybe as you say...he is trying to mate with your hand. God help your flock if that is what he thinks he should mate with lol

I had a cockerel do the same thing on my lap. He had happy endings too. He was a bit older than yours. At frirst I thought it was a dominant behavior. Once he got into full swing with his haromones, He was a nitemare!! He wouldn’t take no for a answer from me or the hens. He turned out to be one of the most vicious rooster ever!!! I wish I would of culled him sooner than I did.

I've had many cockerels do that to my hand. I find it rather disgusting

I'll keep an eye on his behavior. I'm already having to sell 2 of my cockerels for their aggressive behavior towards the other chickens.

Well don't make a judgement on just one or two roo's. Some can be rather decent and sweet especially to the hens. I'm not an expert, but their behavior can be corrected, and there are posts here and else where on the net on how to do it.
