I've been told he's Black Shoulder with a "splash" of Java Green. He is around 2 years now, what do you think? I bought him from a breeder when he was 1.
Your welcome.
Spalding means it has green blood in it. They are hybrids between Indian Blue birds, or any color mutations, and a green bird. I am sure others can go into more detail about that, but that is basically what it is.
Redbuff was a name given for the colouration of a blackshoulder spalding hen. Some say there was some cameo genetics involved. I hatched a young male this year I would consider Redbuff - his colouration as a chick (up to 6 or 7 months) was reddish cameo in the lighter parts of his feathers. Now he is starting to outgrow this and developing more normal blackshoulder spalding colouring.
No problem. Redbuff is generally an outdated term, though some still use it as it still very much describes a specific colouring on some Spalding blackshoulder hens. I have yet to determine what the difference in the male would look like. I don't have any current pics of my male, but below is a link to Texas Peafowl's photo of a Redbuff hen from 2012. My male looks very similar, though he is split to cameo and opal and has more "manly" colours developing on his neck. http://www.texaspeafowl.com/DSC_4298spbkhen12.jpg
