What is in your bator? What breed do you love? I need some suggestions~!

Or you could also get some from people advertising on kijiji or craigslist - Visit the farm if you can - make sure you know what the parents look like.

From what I hear, visiting other ppl's farms can make my chickens sick because of transfer. Is this somehting to worrry about?

Just don't where the same shoes or boots that you wear in your coop, to another farm. I have farms all around me, everyone has chickens. If I thought that just going to another persons farm would make my chickens sick then I certaintly would be stuck at home and never visit my neighbours. My birds free range, they go everywhere but their own yard. Their in the field behind me, in the street, at my neighbor's.

Yes, this is what I do :)

If you take proper precautions, you shouldn't worry about this. If you see any chickens that look unhealthy, just don't purchase anything from them.

Well I think we have our answer. We are very attached to our wyandottes but we got them from a horrible hatchery and ended up with mixes and coloring that isn't right so, we are gonna try to find some heritage Wyandotte hatching eggs. If anyone knows of good quality chickens that have eggs for sale please message me.

The kids are excited to get into 4 h and they want to show the chickens so we need a really good Wyandotte line :)

Yeah we had a similar problem with our wyndotts that we got from a hatchery. Had 2 with a single comb instead of a rose. We still have one of them and she is a very pretty bird. has all the right coloring. But we also had some other issues when we got them. One of the roosters did not even feather out. we named him kuiwi because that is what he looked like. Ones leg at the knee joint did not develop right. If I can help it I would get any more from a hatchery unless Im getting just meat birds.
