What is my rooster doing? 🤣

Ok so my Roo Phoenix was in this weird position today while I was cleaning out the coop. His back was towards me for part of it, and sometimes he was facing me. His tail was angled down, and he had his “shoulders” of his wings kinda spread out and low. I’ve never seen him do this before and I guess I just want to be sure this isn’t some weird dominance asserting thing towards me? He seemed to be pretty interested in the pullet next to him, so I was thinking it’s maybe like a pre-mounting position? Lol I have no clue but as long as it wasn’t him trying to make himself look bigger to challenge me then I’m not gonna worry too much about it.

It definitely looks like he was hot, my hens make that position all the time. Just make sure to watch that it isn’t too hot for your chickens.

Thanks y’all. Strange, because it hasn’t been as hot here the past few days, so for him to do it on one of the cooler days seems odd. He wasn’t panting or anything, so hopefully that means he wasn’t overly hot. He’s been acting fine otherwise, so I guess that means it was working to keep him cool enough.

Why are they all roosted up? Why are they in the coop when you are cleaning. If I show up in the coop, mine all go out to the run?

they go back and forth between the coop and run all willy nilly throughout the day. Should I always kick them out?? I usually free range them when I’m working in the coop but it was rainy so I kept the human doors shut while I stirred up the sand. My older girls don’t usually mind hanging out near me, and while my Roos will sometimes venture into the same general area as me, they generally keep their distance and either watch me or completely just do their own thing. But they all seem to be fairly comfortable around me, as in they don’t seem to feel threatened. Is that bad?

No it's not bad, the opposite in fact.
One word of caution though. You may find they object if they see you taking eggs. Otherwise it should be fine.

You have beautiful birds Nope, not bad. Mine will often bring their nosy beaks into the coop when I'm cleaning just to see what I am doing. A couple of them will on occasion jump up on the poop board and walk into my arms so I have to stop cleaning and pay attention to them
They are, of course, animals though, so always make sure to watch them (especially the males) when you are in a confined space, just in case one does get spooked, is having a bad day, or decides you are competition.

No it is not a bad thing, I was just so surprised. It is obviously daylight out and they were roosted up. Mine go into the coop to lay, but generally only for that unless it is really storming out.
