what is on my ducks nose??

So yesterday i went to check on my pair that are in a different section. And my female seemed to have matted dirt,hay etc over one nostril/one side of the beak. Just now i went to see her again and it was there again. Once again had to peel it off. It looks just like dry/matted hay etc but it keeps coming back and she has plenty of deep water to clean her bill. If it is just dirt i would assume its there since she has a nest and has been messing in the dirt around it. Any one have any ideas??

I need a little help. I have hatched 6 duck eggs in an incubator (only 3 lived) but my khaki/sweetish duck went broody and the eggs we're a week from hatching. I went out today and one of the eggs had been semi smashed on one side. The membrane was not punctured and I could still see the baby moving so my first instinct was to take it and the other fertile eggs into the incubator since they are so close to hatching. Was that a good idea??
