Oeg are super small! Just because they're small doesn't mean they're young, though. I have a serama hen (over 3 years old) and she's 12 oz!

IMO she is only 9-11 weeks old. I was looking at some of my chicks and that's what they weighed and looked like at that age. Your she could also possibly be a he

How did you know it was a hen for sure?

It doesn't have any sickle or saddle feathers like roosters do. And the hackles aren't long like roosters'. Then again it could only be 8 weeks old and I could be completely wrong!

Well I looked at her vent tonight and compared it with my 2 year old hen and hers was bigger........I am wondering if she will lay when she gets comfortable here. She seems to me to be older because she is not skiddish at all, I think she has been handled alot, soooooo we shall see sooner or later, lol.

At the feed store she was with a rooster that was the same age and his wattles were WAY bigger and his feathers were pointed. She was COMPLETELY different thats why I chose her as a hen.

What will a vent look like on a laying hen compared to a pullet?

feel around in her vent.. you'll feel 2 bones. if their spread apart enough for your to put your thumb between them. she is laying -or is about to. if not.. has a ways to go

I have 6 of these hens in my barn. They are a game bird, OEG maybe, game fowl more likely. I think it may be a bantam cross becuase the tail feathers are unique. The game bird hens are really small until they get to about 6 months of age, then they have a big growth spurt. They are very sweet birds. When we had ours as young birds they would jump up on you. Now days they are out with the ROO (game bird) and are very loyal to him.
