What is the angle and how big is the gap for an "egg catcher" crate?

I use the roll out pens ( HOMEMADE) the hole at the bottom of the front is about 1'-1 1/8" and I still get bob eggs that will not quiet roll out most of the coturnix make it out. a friend of mine who raises birds uses EMT/Conduit for support poles for his cages and he claims they are predator proof I have been using PVC plumbing pipe 3/4" size with a fair amount of success the last 1 1/2 years they have worked well I have only lost 1 bird to a snake but the pen this bird was in was too close to the fence and too close to the ground. my floors are 1/2" X 1" the ends of the pens are 1" X 2" another reason I may be having success is I constantly get rid of the predators here. repeating mouse traps rat traps etc

I make my egg catchers like chicken egg catchers. The back legs are a little bit shorter and they roll out into a box that has a wooden lid. Then I just lift the latched lid and get my eggs. It is about the size of a shoe box and it works most of the time. I have a 1 1/4 inch strip on the back of the cage and since the eggs roll all the way back the hens can't see them. That almost completely solved the egg eating problem in one pen. Well, that and tabasco sauce and vinegar...
