What is the average lifespan of a chicken?

What is the average lifespan of a chicken? Does it vary greatly depending on breed? Does Climate play a significant role?
Assuming I correctly feed, water, provide comfortable, preditor proof housing and that my chicken die of NATURAL causes how long can I expect they will live?

I read they can live for about 13 years
My oldest is only 3 years old

I've heard of chickens living 10-15 years, but it seems I start to lose them starting about 4.

It depens on breed to a part but a great part has to due with the bird itself. I had a silkie hen that was around 9 yrs old and a sumatra roo that I had to put down and he was 9 yrs old. I have a golden lakenvelder hen that at the youngest is 10 yrs old and still lays an egg every so often. (I didnt have her as a baby and the lady had her a coulpe of years) Hope this helps.
