What is the best breed for children and cold winters ?

I am looking at getting 2 more chicks and I am wondering what you think the best breeds are for cold and for children?

Orpingtons, Cochins, and Easter Eggers are good.

Depends on what you goals are other than being good with kids.
Do you want good consistent egg layers that are also kid friendly
or do what kid friendly, that also lay eggs, but maybe not consistently?
The kid friendly chickens tend to be the ones that go broody easily, as well.
Agree with above breeds, that all also come in bantam sizes if you want a smaller chicken. I can add silkies as kid friendly and cold hardy as well as very nice to pet with their silkied feathers.

I have easter eggers they did very well actually because we had put them put with the heat lamp in the coop because weather couldn't make up its mind to stay cold or stay warm.
