I think herbs were not included in the original recipe because I think this recipe came from the depression era.

I actually wrote down this recipe while my grandmother, who had the recipe, was buying ingredients at the store. I was there to help her walk around. She was actually fine with me doing that, because she says that she enjoys the fact that people are using the recipe.

I’ll have to figure out what herbs might taste good in it. Maybe a bay leaf will taste good in there.

I will definitely try adding a clove or two of garlic.
I made a simple goulash last Friday. I sauteed a few pieces of raw onion in butter, then added a small can of mushrooms, and then the ground beef. I stirred in some frozen peas, picked back in March.

I'm allergic to tomatoes, so I added a healthy splash of soy sauce. I spooned it and the "juice" over a couple slices of dry bread. It was delicious.

Whenever I cook goulash, I add diced celery root, parsnip root, chopped lerks, diced carrots, and a pinch of sugar, also, I sweat the meat after I have fried it with a few tablespoons of concentrated tomato purée, at the end, some butter always gives extra flavour.
Made my first sourdough pizza dough, 2 sheets of pumpkin apple pizza, delicious!
