I am a newby in the Quail thing. What is the best breed of quail in generel to breed?

THE BREEDS
Coutrnix Quail!
They are so cute. Are they in the same family as Button Quail or something?

Button Quail!
I have two buttons and they are so cute. Ther are one of my favorite quail.

Bobwhite Quail!
I have heard so much about them and Coutrnix Quail, what is so special?

To breed, a toss up between button quail and coturnix. If you don't mind skidishness button quails are right up your alley. If you want something that's friendly like a chicken, coturnix.

Bobwhite quail in almost every state (probably every state) require a permit to breed/sell and release. Pretty much unless you're breeding them for meat, or to hunt with theres really not that much great about them their call is pretty though. I think they are too spazzy, they are pretty though.

I'd say the number one quail that has a lot of positives is the coturnix.
Friendly- esp the jumbos
Colorful- not as colorful as buttons but new varieties pop up all the time
can be indoors just like buttons or out doors making them dual purpose.
tastey meat and eggs

If you're looking for profit, i really would advise you not to expect a profit out o fany breed unless you invest in teh very rare quails that most deffinatly require permits, and are hard to reproduce.

And yes, Coturnix and Button quails are in the same genius or whatever

They're both a type of coturnix.

Coturnix are known as Coturnix Coturnix
Button quails are known as : coturnix chinensis

My coturnix pay for their feed, and most of the bill for the other animals' feed through the sale of their eggs.
Some states require a permit to keep any quail, so you'll need to check on that before you do anything serious.
Personally, I would much rather go with coturnix, though I keep buttons as well for cuteness factor

Bobwhites are a waste of time, IMO, unless you are wanting to raise them for dog training and whatnot.
Buttons are very touchy, it seems just about anything will make them stop laying.

I think it is really what you like. Unlike Shelley my buttons turn the profit that's where I make my money. I find them easy to raise and mine lay very well. I made the investment in valleys and they are touchy things I am having a hard time with them. We will have to see how they produce. I love how friendly my jumbos are
