what is the best Hatchery to order from?

I heard MM is experimenting with packaging for shipping fewer chicks, but hasn't started providing that service, yet. I got the bright idea to get some of their Faverolles just a little early.

I liked Ideal. I chose Ideal because they are located here in Texas. My babies actually came a day early. The PO called me before daylight so they weren't at the PO long before I got there. All 13 were as healthy as can be and at 4 weeks old now I haven't had a problem yet!

I just love them. They are so much entertainment!

I've had nothing but awesome luck with Ideal. My last order arrived the next day after shipping, much to my surprise. None of my chicks were DOA on any order and I can't recall losing any afterwards, either. Customer service was super friendly each time I spoke to them on the phone or through email. Additionally, all of my birds look to be good examples of the breed. I couldn't tell you whether they are SQ or just PQ- but I've no intention of showing the birds, so it doesn't matter. I've ordered 25+ different breeds from them.

I also chose meyer and they had wonderful chicks! Mine are now going on 8 weeks old and are the sweetest birds! we plan on ordering our meat birds next month from them and i plan on ordering more red stars, buff orpingtons, delawares.... Mine were shipped monday afternoon and arrived at my po at 5am the next morning. They are only 6 hours drive from here.

I just got an oder of chicks from Privett Hatcher yesterday. The order arrived a day earlier than expected (I figure a good thing), will all chicks in excellent condition. I appreciated that the chicks are all priced shipping prepaid (although there is a $7 charge for orders less than 100 chicks and a $1 charge for each variety if you get more than one...still cheaper than the shipping from McMurray). In addition to chicks, I also wanted a couple turkey poults and guinea keets. McMurray wouldn't ship the different species together. You had to order 15 turkeys and 20 guineas if you wanted them at all. Privett shipped them all together, so there were no minimums for each species. Plus, they sent me two extra slow cornish and an extra guinea for free. I'm more than happy so far!

I have had good luck with MM, Ideal and Privett. It kind of depends on what you are ordering as each does things a little differently. Privett was a little cheaper overall on most breeds but also only had straight run in many of their breeds. I also had good luck with Marti
Hatchery. I breed and hatch most of my own now so I haven't used a hatchery in many years. I think I might try Sandhill if I ever do order chicks again.

MY PET CHICKEN!! i got a chick from there and i couldnt be happier. they have a 3 chick minimum shipping is really expensive but its worth it. i typically dont like ideal because every time i look they are all out of stock. im getting a vaccinated cuckoo maran pullet in the mail around august its not arriving then its just its being watched for me while im on vacation. i totally suggest mypetchicken.com

My chicks came from Mt Healthy Hatchery in Cincinnati, OH (well technically they're in Mt Healthy, OH). Mine were very healthy when they arrived (no pun intended) and aside from one clogged vent, we've had no issues. All 25 chicks are doing great 9 weeks later and the packing peanut chick (rooster) is massive and healthy as well.

Good luck!

WOW!

I didn't know you can order only a few through Ideal!

Is that true I can order just 4???

I order through HoffmanHatchery.com because you only had to have 15 in your order!

the order cam a day early (the day I am usually out for the whole day! lucky kids were home) the mail carrier just left them on step!
