What is the best heated water bowl?

It really depends on if it gets dirty or not. If I notice anything in the bowl other than water I dump it and wash it. Just my observation. Honestly I would like to switch to something that doesnt need cleaning as frequently like a gravity fed waterer but Ive seen horrible reviews. I'd like to make my own if anyone has plans posted for one
I've seen one done with a 5 gallon bucket and a pie tin that seems lie it would be good. Cut little holes near the bottom of the bucket and fill with water. Attach pie tin. Instant waterer.

I can’t visualize what you are describing here. Do you have a photo or a link?

I bought one of these a few years ago. Works great: https://www.theisens.com/products/h...lUsZ0ycRWNFsj9s6KAr0eeF4grEo6onBoCl90QAvD_BwE

I’ve also made a DIY one from an empty kitty litter pail and a fish aquarium heater. That one is almost 6 years old and still going strong. It doesn’t hang. I set it on top of cement blocks to get the nipples at chicken face level. You can find the horizontal chicken nipples easily on line.

I also have several of the blue heated dog dishes from TSC. I do concur, get the TSC warranty. I’ve had some last for over 5 years and some konk out in less than one season. One thing I’ve found to cut down on wattles getting dipped and birds perching on the sides is to put one of these inside the blue bowl:

It also adds a little bit to the capacity.

Maybe I'll do one of these with the floating thing @Flockincrazy was talking about.

I am concerned about using nipple waterers because I have adult birds that don't know how to use them. Would I be able to train them?

My birds have never used a nipple waterer so I'd be worried that they wouldnt be able to figure it out. How does putting the fountains in discourage perching?

I am actually thinking that I might do this, seems like it would hold much more and stay much cleaner than a dog bowl.
Plus you could still fill it from the top which would be nice. Honestly thats the only thing I like about the dog bowl. But having to clean it out constantly makes it a hassle. By the end of december I'm praying for warm weather so I can switch back to my fount. I'd like a better base than a pie tin though. Not sturdy enough.
