What is the best laying breed??

I found a red star last year on the street, it was in a big bag and someone has thrown it in front of our house, maybe they don't want it any more, maybe b/c she had a leg a bit shorter than the other, so she was walking in a funny way at first we thought she wont lay, but even if we kept it and she way so tamed and docile and sweett!! after a couple of months she started laying for us big brown eggs every day, even in cold winters!!She WAS so sweet and special she even went half broody, but never sat, she was just fluffing its feathers and saying "crock..,crock..,crock.." and laying, i never had a similar hen in my life... At the first she was shy and didn't knew how the outside world was b/c she was born in a egg production farm with her trimmed beak, so she was just lost in the streets and didn't know where to settle but finally I managed to entroduce her to our flock and then she settled and became a family member...But unfortunatly she died 3 weeks ago I knew that an egg was stuck in her vent from the day before and she was trying to lay the other.... But actually this year the first chicken went broody had some of her eggs being fertile under her with other chickens eggs even knowing that our roo is not a red star but some how one of the chicks that were in her eggs was exactly the same of her, a female red star chick, she is now 16 weeks old approximatly and looking the same as her mom, she even has a leg shorter than the others, she's the only one between the other chicks that hatched from her eggs being like her i'm so happy with her.... but some of the others have the same mark: a leg shorter than the other!!
And I have one question after that story, are red stars best in laying or with lenghorn?!!

Interesting story about your red star -- and the short-leg trait being passed along.

Since it seems that friendliness is important to you, I would suggest that you stick with the red-star or other sexlink chickens. Leghorns IMO lay no better than the sexlinks, and are pretty flighty birds. Leghorns lay white, your sexlink(s) will be brown egg layers.

I, personally, LOVE my Leghorns. I only have 2 hens, but they are both awesome layers and are super friendly. My flock is mostly made up of brown egg layers, so I find their bright white eggs add a nice touch in my egg basket. Loved your story about your special chicken, good luck with the babies!

Best Egg egg laying breed of chicken is the Production type white leghorn, ISA Browns or Red stars/Sex links are the best at laying brown eggs

Thanks all for your posts and advices... but I think i'll stick with my red star sex links for their calm and adorable personality and good brown egg production
