What is the Best Pet chicken?

I love my BO's too because they do follow me all over the yard as if I were their rooster. I pick and peel grapes for them and show them where to find the best bugs. They know that I'm all about their best interests. Although I don't physically pick them up much, they're just such a bunch of luvvies.

I have 3 serama eggs in my bator at the moment and I plan to put a lot of hard work into raising these to be lap chickens. These for me are ideal because they can be indoor/outdoor chickens. I'm already planning a little outside area for them alone. These egglettes better hatch!

And, of course Silkies are a great choice ("Prada" and "Fendi")

I have limited experience, but our RSLs are pretty calm and lovable, while the SLW hen we have is very flighty.

But, what I really miss are the incredibly sweet barred rocks that the dog got to...they were the nicest to handle and liked human contact more than any of our other birds.

My favorites are Salmon Faverolles they are very sweet and talk coo like. My roo is quiet and sweet they come running up to you when they see you and they are beautiful. here should be a pic of rudy roo and one of is girls trixie. i have two more girls not present.

I have a Rhode Island Red pullet that is very friendly and lovable. She will seek me out in the yard and follow me around telling me stuff. She loves to be petted and picked up. She hasn't always been the most friendly and outgoing of the flock. When she was a younger chick she spent most of her time quietly while the others were exploring and testing the pecking order. She did start spending more time with me when I started handfeeding them raisins. All of mine go crazy for raisins!! They will follow you all around after you run out hoping for more.

Suellen, I wish my kids had such adorable acoutrements! My kids like to carry our Brahma around, which is what made me start thinking seriously about pet chickens. We've got 14 hens, of which 3 are older, and 11 are younger (not laying yet) and we have an assortment of Golden sex link, Delaware, Cuckoo maran, Buff Orpington, 2 SLWs, 4 EEs, 3 chanteclers and a brahma. The GSL is pretty nice, or at least she does a serious chicken squat if you even look at her, so she gets carried around a bit by the kids, but the other ones aren't really interested, unless I have food... The brahma is fat, and has furry feet, which instantly made her a favorite with the kids, but I am seriously thinking about Silkies, seramas and Faverolles after all the repeat votes for them.... keep the ideas coming!
