What is the best way to transport a chicken for a short car ride?

The topic pretty much says it all. They are 3 month old standard sized roosters. Would one fit into a paper bag if I tied the handles together? Or is that a horrible idea?

I want them in something I can give away and I'm out of boxes.

A rooster in a paper bag? Sorry, but don't you think it might be in shreds by the time they got to their destination? Could you go to your local grocery, bakery, anything and ask for some free boxes? What about who is picking them up. Could they bring their own?
