What is the difference between, EE, Americana, and Araucanas?

Thanks, I read the recent post...it answered all of my questions. The reason for my confusion was I had bought my hens from a feed store. The chicks were marked Araucanas. I went to a chicken show and there were Black Americana's..they looked nothing like mine. Mine look just like the EE shown on this post. I have to admit..I'm kinda disappointed..Thanks a lot for your help. DJ

Just to add further confussion, here in UK (and I am reliably told most countries outside USA) we accept Araucanas with tails, different muffs and different colours to the American standard, as long as they are representative of the original araucanas from Chile. Go figure!

Why do they have to make something that should be so simple be so complicated? The hens that I have...all have muffs, beards and tails. So..are they Araucanias? or EE? Thanks CAT and BLUEY for your input and advice. DJ

Today someone at work was telling me about her aracoonas. Yep, that's how she was pronouncing it, Ar-a-coon-a.

I have real araucanas and some ameraucanas and one EE. Even when you show a lot of the people what the differences are they will not change what they call their birds because the hatchery they got them from gave the birds the name.

As such, I did not bother trying to educate this coworker.

I honestly can't answer that question but I assure you there are many people here that care greatly about the differences and these folks can really give one an education if you are interested.

Our neighbor calls his EEs (possible off color Ameraucanas, but probably just EE) Ar-you-canas. They are definitely not araucanas and I don't know what an Ar-you-cana is

. They are beautiful birds though and my two favorite chickens (Gypsy and Rusty) are from this neighbor.
