A white egg is the easiest, but any egg can be candled. And a good candler can be made for under $10. Take 4 pieces of wood 4" x 6" x 1/2" and nail them together making an open end box. Take another piece of wood and make a top to fit, cutting a 1" hole in the center. From a hareware store buy a plastic light base about $3 and a 30 watt flood light bulb about $4. Atach the base to a piece of wood that you can set the box over and there you have it. I even use this to candle my marans egg. Sometimes I need to use a 50 Watt bulb. It really takes longer to tell you how to build it than t actually take to build it.
