This may perhaps been discussed somewhere in BYC; but I've been meaning to ask, do you keep your ducks as pets or for meat? I started keeping muscovies to be used for meat, but coming to BYC, it seems most people on here are keeping their ducks as pets...reading all the nice stories and watching my ducks grow, I'm beginning to wonder if I can eat them.

I've done both. I have some ducks that I started out for pets ish. but then morphed into keeping them for eggs. (I have Welsh Harlequins) But I have also raised multiple batches of Pekins throughout the years, for meat. And yes they're fun, but I know I'm raising them for a purpose so I haven't had an issue with it (and not to be gross.. but duck tastes REALLY good!)

That's encouraging to note. I'll wait for the second generation to mature and then commence using them for meat.
