UPDATE: These 4 geese have only been here for 5 days, just 5 days. They have been distant and seemed nervous. The largest and noisy one, thought to be a drake surprised the heck out of me yesterday.
As I approached him he stood his ground, lowered his head and stretched out his neck. I kept tossing small bits of bread. He finally picked up a piece. I crouched down and held one out... I was shocked.. he walked over and took it from my hand and as he turned and slowly walked away, I pet him on his back. Amazing... at least to me. I continued to toss bread and 2 of the others began to eat the bread.... this was so cool.
We have had our 6 Muscovies for a little over two weeks. They are now paying close attention to us when we walk into their yard. One of them will consistently eat watermelon from my wife's hand and they are now following us around the yard. I am sure loving this stuff.
Oh, they are all getting used to my dog, a 2 year old GSD, whom is a perfect gentleman around the birds.... with me there, so I am always there. LOL I feed Falco a raw diet, an ingredient is a quarter raw chicken (store bought) at each meal. I don't think he's put it all together yet, or I guess he would consider the girls are walking snacks, instead of grumpy and occasionally rude buddies.
For their reward for being such good kids, I bought two children pools on Friday... wow, they sure appreciated it. First the ducks took turns, then the Geese. One goose flew out of the pool, this apparently was not unnoticed by one of the ducks, so he too flew out of the pool. One of the geese turned upside down in the water and showed me his rump... I think that might have been a message to the ducks. ;>)
I hope to have their sheds finished by next weekend. A neighbor needed about 30 minutes of tractor work.... in trade, he gave me five unused 100' rolls of welded wire fence...... what a great weekend!
It is really exciting around here for this rookie.... thank you all for your help in getting me this far.
Cheers,
Dan
