What Is The Healthiest Fish To Eat?

How big is your pond? I imagine a pond of being max of 20 foot radius.

My pond covers about 2 acres

WOW!!! I wish I had a pond.

This was part of the reason I got the property!

Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack your thread.. but it's still about fish to eat right!

I was actually referring to the grass carp which is the kind we have here in the U.S. and their diet is mostly grass which was the reason for their import to control weeds in lakes and ponds. If a carp chooses weeds which cannot escape them over little fish would that not make him a vegan?

I try not to buy food made/produced in China, especially in recent years with poisons and toxins in their food. Do you think they care what happens to us? You are a small number to the masses they are feeding and cutting corners makes for a bigger profit margin!
The Monterey Bay aquarium list is excellent and I try always to buy wild caught or we go without, for us it is that simple. Grow what you can and don't rely on grocery stores to make educated choices for you, Soy (as well as other GMO crops) is a whole other can of worms in this countries food supply as well

That's what I thought. So, I guess I should just purchase from my local seafood/fish market or local farms?

It is hard to get/find good clean cat fish. We had some at the restaurant chilli's one time and it was the best we have had prepared for us but that might not be an option for you price wise or if you don't have that restaurant where you are located.

I heard salmon was really good for you and tuna.

We love cod!

I skip tilapia & catfish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilapia

Wild grown those tend to eat rather gross stuff.

Personally I don't trust Salmon or Tuna these days with what heavy metals are going around. . . But I'm sort of a hypocrite as I do eat fresh/local caught of both, being that I'm right near the Pacific Ocean and have great deals all the time.

To me, the safest are raised in one's backyard in a clean environment and not fed excessive commercialized food. I know some people raise Tilapia in Aquaponics settings, I'd love to do that myself. My sister co-owns a place with a huge pond teaming with trout in it, I'd trust those too except that they feed the trout commercialized feed that honestly resembles dogfood, and, I'd kinda not want to know what's in the feed. It sure does smell weird.
