What is the longest you have waited for eggs?

This Saturday will be 33 weeks and my 3 Buff Brahma hens are still showing no sings fo laying.

Yeah, I know Jerseys are going to take a while but I can hope. I have ordered a solar shed light to help things along. Has anyone used these? The coop is too far out to run electricity to (well, without undue effort and $$).

Don't get discouraged with Jerseys. Mine took almost 9 months before they started laying. They're big chickens and are slower to mature than most breeds. They also don't lay as many eggs as most breeds, so if your girls skip a day or three between eggs when they start laying, that's normal.

My Rhode Island Red started laying a 20 weeks and we've been getting an egg a day since then (even at 0 degrees with no heat/insulation and no artificial light).

My Buff Brahma, and Silver-Laced Wyandotte on the other hand are 29 weeks and still no eggs in sight from them. They are being stubborn!

Hmm, my Jersey Giants started at 20 weeks. At least one of them did -- maybe more (can't tell them apart!) And then they were all laying by 24 weeks, for sure, because by then there were just a couple of stragglers who weren't laying. (Miss Barred Rock, you know who you are!.

I first got 13 eggs out of 13 hens a week ago, at 25 weeks, so I guess that's the longest I've waited. That's when I was sure they were all laying.

One of our JG's just started laying at 22 weeks,
last week a BR started laying at 21 weeks.

But we have a pair of white cochins around 26/27 weeks and still no eggs.

Hopefully your solar light is better than mine. We picked one up from Lowes and it's certainly not bright, but I only bought it to give them dim light because I heard something about how they getting some sort of night/dark confusion....it does the trick. We just installed a small light anyway to give them 14 hrs. of light. It comes on at 3 a.m. Hopefully now I'll get some eggs. They are 22 wks old. They have a small but comfortable coop that is insulated and keeps them warm. I really was hoping for fresh eggs for some of my Christmas meals and such. Oh well.

First egg today -- in the middle of a snowstorm. Rhode Island Reds, 20 weeks and two days. It must be the lights strung up around the coop.
