$$$What is the most expensive chicken you have brought or sold?$$$

Just paid $60 a piar for 2 pair of SQ bantam Polish and $40 for another pair of SQ Polish. They are the most expensive I have bought so far. I'm sure eventaully I will end up spending more to get more birds of one of the variety that I raise.

About $89 for 21 BLRW eggs and only 3 hatched and one is a straight comb!

other then that I've paid $12 each for 3 amerucanus from pips&peeps before, and I'm going back! She has really great healthy birds and I love the blue eggs!

Not very expensive lol. My most expensive was the 8 week BR pullets that were $5 each. Then we got the EE chicks (1 week and 1 day olds) and they were $1.25 each. The girls (Dark Cornish and EE) were given to us for free.

I am a cheapy. But out of the two layers, we get two eggs a day. Every once in a while the EE will skip a day (like today), but it is rare; The DC skipped one day once, and then a few days later laid two. So I am not complaining about my free girls and they are pretty!

If you don't count the $500+ that our coop cost us when we built it for four $3.25 hatchery pullets

then I just hit my tops last weekend spending $30 for 3 marans chicks. Two black copper and one splash. Boy oh boy do I hope they're all girls!!!

WOW! Here I am not wanting to pay 55 dollars for eggs!

The most I paid was 25.00 for my Black Copper Maran. From a breeder, she sure is pretty.... her eggs are not A line quality but they aren't bottom of the line either. I was hoping for a little darker.

I always feel that I can't justify paying 80 bucks for eggs. After reading all your posts... I am going to have to rethink the justification line of reasoning. Might have to shell out once the new coop is built!

Probably my Barred Rock hen, Pauline. She was worth every penny of the 8.50 I paid at auction for her. She is bossy and mean, and closely related to a wild boar both in stature and hunger, but she is a dependable layer and is the undisputed "boss" of our coop.

Just for reference, here's a list of our chickens and costs of each:

Scooter: Red standard cochin roo: 6.50 from local seller

Beatrix: our pet andalusian hen: 7.50 from local seller

NeeNee: our partridge silkie hen: 5.00 from local seller

Charity: our dud RSL pullet: 6.00 from local production farmer

Trudy: our RIR pullet: 3.00 from a local seller

Chester: our BR boy: 3.00 local seller (came with Trudy)

Sunshine: disputed silkie hen or roo: 5.00 as hen at auction

Yumi and Naoki: Pharoah quail: free from two tiny eggs a friend gave me : )

3 Bobwhite quail: 9.00 total or 3.00 each: local breeder

Ginger, Marion, Martha, Persiphony: OEGB hens: FREE!! From local man who was moving...he was obviously nuts! : )

Pierre: OEGB rooster: FREE as repayment for original free OEGB boy "Monty" who the neighbor's dog killed....I want Monty back...so I have:

VIGGO: Monty's juvenile son who is growing up to replace useless Pierre. Cost for Viggo: FREE! I incubated the little fella with his two sisters, Veronica and Violet. As well as a horribly ugly cochin silkie cross (ScooterXNeeNee) named LeeLee.

I also have 5 BR chicks that costed me 2.00/dozen eggs to hatch...so...since out of a dozen I only hatched 5, that would make them worth about .40 cents each according to what I paid....and two who knows what white birds that came from RIR eggs I got for free....

Whew! I just wanted to list my birds I guess....

I recently dropped about $300 on 18 Maria Hall Jersey Giant chicks that I wont even get till April or May. So, thats pretty much the most I've ever spent at one time on a chicken.

I think I've sold laying hens for about $15 to $20 tops.

The most I spent for a single bird was for a Show Quality Cochin Cockerel from one of the best breeders in the country for $60.

The most I have sold a single bird for was a SQ Black Ameraucana Cockerel for $30.

Matt
