I am very new to quail But I have Jumbo Bobwhites and TX A&M's. And I love the A&M's. They are more gentle, not flighty. I can pick them up and they lay eggs at 6 weeks. But like I said I am a newbie.
Happy Hunting,
Terri

We have 4 jumbos, 2 goldens, 4 tibetan's, 3 a&m's, 5 tuxedos (all coturnix) and then we have 4 brown bobwhites and 2 pure white bobwhites. When anybody comes over they always say they like the chocolate brown tibetan's the best. They seem to be more docile, quiet and for some reason they don't fly but just hop around like rabbits when they're excited.

I right now would have to say t Buttons I love the colors and sounds they make
Coturnix are super sweet
And I am sure I am going to love my valleys when I get them!

Well I have many breeds

I have Brown Coturnix-- I like these a lot, they are very friendly too.
I raise Mountain Quail too, these guys are my least favorite, they are hard to raise, they die easy and are too expensive, So i will be selling them when the weather becomes cooler.

I have Button quail, these are nice and cute little birds, but are too flighty, and the males are brutal to eachother during the breeding season.

I raise Orange bobs, White bobs, Northern bobs, Mexican Speckled, Snowflakes, Smokeys, and Tennessee Reds, they are all nice birds if you keep them in small enough cages so they get used to you and if you don't make a sudden movement, then they stay calm. I would like these more if they weren't so noisy.

I have Gambel's and Blue scales also, these seem flighty and you can never tame them. The Gambel's can be really mean towards each other, so when you introduce new birds do it in the winter months when birds make natural coveys.

But My favorite would be the valleys, these little guys seem to lay more eggs than poop in the spring time, lol! They are flighty and you can't really calm them down, but they are really pretty and easy to raise, so these are my favorites. They also get along with other breeds really well

So here is my list
Valleys
Coturnix
Bobwhites
Buttons
Gambels/Blue scales

Mine were super wild and spazzy birds. The older ones got used to me and got calmer, but they quit laying at a year old. So I bought day-olds and they were super spazzy and nuts and I lost more than one from them squeezing out of impossibly small openings or flying out when I opened the cage door. They seemed to die easily and would pick, pick, pick on each other. I tried everything I knew to make them happy. Arrrrg! After having tested them for diseases and with approval from our local game warden, I released them for "repopulation." I hope they're happier where they are!

Love my Corturnix (Texas A&M mostly)
Very calm, quiet and friendly birds- they only spazz out if something really scary comes by. They often fall right out of the cages when I open the door, like lemmings over a cliff, but don't go anywhere and don't freak out when I pick them up. Even if a bunch get out, they go two steps and go "ooooooh, dust bath! Ahhhh" and I can round them up easily. They're calmer, hatch quicker, mature faster and dress out bigger than the Bobwhites. Not a hard decision for me!
