what is the purpose of keeping goats

Quote:
If you have 20 acres of grass, why not look into a farmer haying it for you?
That, or leasing it to someone that has a few sheep that need pasture.

Sheep -- there are hair sheep and heat-and-parasite-adapted wool sheep that would suit your climate -- would mow your grass.

But sheep AND goats are both very, very vulnerable to attacks by dogs and coyotes. The big thing is predatorproof fencing, and that is not always 100% effective

Hair sheep might be the way to go. I raised Barbados sheep for several years. They have short hair like a goat. You don't have to shear them. They are less trouble to take care of in other ways too. When they birth, I never had to help one like I did with a wool sheep. They also have a higher resistance to worms.

Get hair sheep! They shed their wool each spring and mow the grass so well that it looks neatly and smoothly trimmed all the time...even trim the edges.

These are Katahdin/St. Croix cross sheep~naturally parasite-resistant and hardy, easy keepers:

how many hair sheep would i need per acre to keep the grass mowed. what else do you have to feed them? do u buy these sheep from breeders?

Make sure you go under the rec. amount, so that they have good feed all the time.
Over grazing is not a good idea. Its not healthy for the pasture or the animals.
