What is the quietest dual purpose duck breed?

Just a little tip. I cover the opening of my ducks' sleeping pen with a black cloth at night.
Then, they wake when I want them too and the neighbors get to sleep till at least 9am.
Keeps us all happy!

Yes you can mix duck breeds. I've got 2 Golden 300s, 2 cayugas, 1 WH & 1 chocolate runner. I also have a pair of Australian Spotteds but they are in a separate yard/house because a) I don't want them to fly away and b) I want them to breed/raise ducklings without the interference of the big ducks.

Are welsh harlequins quiet as well I have neighbors close as well like 40 yards away

Yep. I have a Welsh duck and drake and both are quiet. The drake is more talkative than our duck, but they are not loud. Unless you creep around the corner with a new coat and hat on, THEN they quack at the giant brown monster heading their way.....

guess you had to be there......

I have a large welsh harlequin and she's a chatty Cathy. Her partners are two cayugas and they are loud on occasion but all in all these three girls are pretty laid back but when they are out of food, they quack and quack and just stand there looking at me lol. That's when I know they need food.

I also have three australian spotted bantams. Two females (mother and daughter) and 1 male. The mother was pretty loud before but nowadays her daughter out quacks her by a mile. She is very insistent and when she wants me to come see her she is loud, loud, loud! I love them all though.

I have four Welsh Harlequin ducks and 1 WH drake, and really they are pretty quiet. One duck in particular can be a little loud, but most of the time they are very quiet. My grey dewlap Toulouse ganders, on the other hand, can be really obnoxious!! I really love my WH ducks, though. They used to be afraid of me when they were younger (got them from Holderread's last June), but now when I come in their pen or their house they all come over and nibble at my boots and my pants and beg for dried mealworms. I just love their personalities!! And, their eggs are delicious!!
