what is the rarest breed you have in your flock?! i have an Egyptian Fayoumi

Chickens dumped in random places usually don’t survive longer than a few weeks, so many times they go unnoticed.
Someone got evicted in my area and they left behind a free-ranging flock of around 10 chickens. A few roosters and mostly hens. I tried catching them a few times but they're too wary and run away when they see me

It's been 18 months since they've had zero human support. I've seen hawks circling the area many times. Now there's a single surviving rooster remaining, I think he's an American Game. The hens looked like Easter Eggers

If anyone ever wanted to start a survival flock these long term survivors are perfect for it

That’s really sad. And also strange to me - you’d think people who abandoned poultry would just let them go to fend for themselves. (I’m not advocating for this of course, just questioning the logic.)
I think, in this case, people keep abandoning birds in that one location because they see the roosters already there and think they’ll do fine. The truth is that most of the roosters don’t live very long, there’s just always some there because people keep dumping them. The people who manage the garbage dump even put up a “don’t dump chickens” sign there (it didn’t seem to work).
