What is the rarest chicken?

Here's an extremely rare one: Barred and White Hollands (which are actually a dual-purpose white egg laying New Jersey Breed)

I only know of one farm that even offers them...

Another, though it is a Guinea Fowl not Chicken, is Vulturine Guineas.

I know they are a Bantam....but the Pyncheon is very rare in it's "pure" state.......some man made/crosses are out there. Probably thee oldest "American" Bantam.....and one of the rarest.

“The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy mission is to protect genetic diversity in livestock and poultry species through the conservation and promotion of endangered breeds. These rare breeds are part of our national heritage and represent a unique piece of the earth's bio-diversity. The loss of these breeds would impoverish agriculture and diminish the human spirit. We have inherited a rich variety of livestock breeds. For the sake of future generations we must work together to safeguard these treasures.” https://www.backyardchickens.com/#_edn1

“Breed information about Nankin Bantam Chicken, The Nankin is an ancient breed of fowl that is thought to be one of the oldest known bantam chickens. The bird’s initial point of origin is obscured in history going back beyond all known records. There is evidence that the bird arrived in England prior to the 1500’s and there is even speculation that it may have been present well before then.”[ii]

Conservators Nankin Bantam Fowl has a diverse breeding stock of pure bread Nankin Bantam Fowl. Breeding stock was collected from Alabama, California, Oregon and Washington . Our Nankin are rose comb and straight comb free ranging flock. Rooster just over two pounds, hens less then two pounds, eggs size extra small.

I am Nankin Bantam Breeder they can be hatched in a inci with fair results, putting them under a hen improves the results, as the eggs and chicks seem to need the hen talking to them before hatching, and the care of a mother after hatching. I can ship to the West coast this fall, It is to cold to ship East and have the egg hatch. I am taking orders for Spring eggs, contact me at [email protected]
