What is The Smallest Breed Of Goat?

You can teach them to walk on a leash. I used a dog harness on mine when we went to the vet :)

Anyone know of a good breeder of a Nigerian or fainting goat in va or nc? I have the time and space and think they would be a great addition to my chickens! Now hubby can really laugh at my "farm".

They are both small but should be 50lbs or larger full grown. Smaller goats then that were stunted for some reason, usually coccidia when they are young causes stunting. My smallest full grown goat is a pygmy/ nigerian cross and she is 48lbs

Wow! I just cruised through this entire thread and some things I did not see:

Pygmy - are a "meat" goat that were at one time bred for food. Small package, no need for refrigeration.

Nigerian dwarf - are a dairy goat! I noticed early on in the thread someone say they are 'like' a dairy goat in appearance. Well the truth be told, they are a dairy goat. Granted, milking a nigi will get you enough for your coffee and cereal in the morning but not much more. lol

Last and my favorite!

Pygora - is a cross between a pygmy and an angora goat. EXCELLENT Fiber! Very soft on the kids and they can be sheared in the summer provided they are old enough and big enough!

Small breeds can usually be bred year round unlike many of the European Alpine breeds which are only bred in the fall.

There are many homes that have only one nigi or pygmy inside the home provided there are other animals to keep him or her company while humans are not there. There are washable belly bands (buck/wether) and tail hole diapers (doe) to avoid the occasional oopsies while in the process of housebreaking.

For washable belly bands and tail hole diapers I get mine at:
http://www.dogquality.com/collections/dog-diapers
The advantage on these is that the diapers are adjustable and have snaps on them to allow for larger bottoms and bellies! Pretty colors too; Belly bands have: Navy Blue Hunter Green and Black, Diapers are Purple, Avocado Green and Pink.

Little tid-bits and I hope they are helpful to someone out there.
