What is the strangest thing you've fed your chickens?

One time there was a big ole waterbug (flying roach) in the chicken food. It's in a sealed tupperware container, don't know how the roach got in. Anyway, I grabbed a hen, and put her on the edge of the container. She soon caught on, and took quick care of the bug for me.

I was very grateful. That was back in the early days of chicken owning...

One of our hens, Big Momma, ate a lizard one time that ran in the coop. I can't say much for the choices in chicken cuisine.

Interesting... I was just thinking of this possibility the other day as way to get them some extra protein. I'm not quite sure though of what the neighbors are going to think if they see me scooping up possums of the road every morning.... probably put an end to the potluck invitations

my kids come in from school and give them what ever they did not eat yogurt included

we have a "chicken bowl" on the counter and plate scrapings go in there and what ever else i can find...

but my hens will not eat the stumps of broccoli

Kohlrabi (German Turnip) I seriously did not think they would eat them. way too hard. but had a bunch left over from the garden and threw them in there expecting to pic them up later. not one to be found... I hate kohlrabi and expected the chickens to follow my lead

I've been feeding mine weeds that I pull out of the garden, especially lambsquarter weed...they love it. I also give them anything leftover after meals, bread crusts, leftover scrambled eggs, etc. They come running when I go out there with a bowl in my hand.
