I put my plastic waterers up on a four inch plastic box turned upside down to keep the shavings out. I secured a feed sack to the wall above it so it dangles over the top of the waterer. That keeps the chickens from roosting on the waterer, and it is really easy to pull the waterer out from under it, and drop the sack back over it when you replace it.

I'm currently getting my 'poop board' in place. It's the length of the roost - but it's not flat - I plan to make it cupped and slanted toward a bucket, and then I'll just hose it down, dump the bucket into the adjoining compost heap. No shoveling poop for me -
