My chickens get any scraps I deem safe for them from the kitchen. Leftover spaghetti, rice, bread, pizza "bones", leftovers gone bad, corn, steamed veggies that got left out overnight... I don't give them chicken though. That just feels wrong. Cows got mad cow disease from eating other cows (their brains, I know), and unfortunately many extremely low quality dog and cat foods contain the rendered carcasses of euthanized dogs and cats, which is why I feed high quality food.
It's kinda hard right now! I only have 2 chickens in the shed, one being an older roo and the other still a pullet, so I know I can't safely give them too much bread... don't want the pullet to get angelwing or something from the excess carbs... I have way too many leftovers for 2 chickens right now!
Oh, and peppers are totally fine! Birds love them -- they don't taste things the same way we do, but I know my parrots go nuts for jalapenos and cayenne powder in their food. The spicier the better. I have heard of people putting pepper flakes in their wild bird feeders to deter the squirrels and ants. The birds don't mind, but it burns the squirrels' mouthes!
