This was in the field by my house this morning when my daughter went to school, still there this afternoon, then tonight when we went for our bike ride, there it was still wandering aimlessly in the field across the road this time. From googling, I'm guessing it's a white chinese goose...does that sound right? None of my neighbors have ducks or geese and I'm wondering if someone dumped it or it flew?? Can they fly? Male or female (I'm thinking XY)?

I'm guessing it's a pet of some sort because she and I walked up onto it in the field and just caught it (It's not scrawny and seems well fed) Then I carried it back to the truck, put it in a cage, and now have it in a 12x24 kennel. It has a nice size doghouse to sleep in as well. We gave it food and water and it graciously took to it....now what do we do with it? I'm thinking of posting a "goose found" sign and see if anyone claims it-we don't have any geese at all-only chickens and turkeys and had never considered keeping one. What do ya' think? Opinions, suggestions??

I would post that you found a goose and ask that they identify what it looks like. I don't think they can fly very far... at lest mine can't, LOL. Probably belongs to someone thinking a predator took it, I would feel horrible if I lost one of my geese. If no one claims it, you might now be a goose/gander owner.

I've got 4 of those in my incubator... I sure can't wait!

Too bad for the person who lost it. I've had a goose fly away on me before

They CAN fly but usually won't so long as they are happy and fed and watered. Mine flew off because it got in a fight with the others... kicked off the island? LOL

Also you would be surprized on how far they will walk. I once had a lone goose and had to take a trip out of town. I paid a neighbor kid to feed and water mine. I don't know if he failed or the goose just got lonly. When i got home he was gone and a farmer better than a mile away had left me a note that the goose was at his place living with his horse and would I please come and get him? He had called around when he found the goose in with his horse but neither he or the kid was able to catch him or herd him home. I had to go over there and he walked home with me. He and the horse became great buddies and it became part of my excercise program to walk him over to visit his buddy when the weather was cool.

Well I may have found the owner to this goose

He's going to come by after he gets home from work to see if it's his. If not, and he wants it, I think I'm gonna let him have it. I really don't want to keep this goose because I'm the type that thinks that it must have a friend, and with my luck, I'd get a boy, then they'd be having babies cuz if my birds go broody, I always give in and let them set.

In the meantime, she just layed an egg and man is it HUGE! So she's obviously not TOO upset. But she did lay it on the ground and not in the house (chicken egg for comparison)

Was not his goose BUT he gave me one more person to check. If it's not theirs, he offered to take it off of my hands. So today I'll go check, if not, it's his. He has 5 others of the same kind so he said it would have plenty of company

So it'll turn out good in the end
