What is this chicken thinking?

In December I was in Carrara, Italy, heart of the marble country (I was there for marble, not for chickens) but a friend told me the national poultry championship show was going on that weekend in the convention center. My wife and I took tons of photos, I'm still sorting them, but here are two for starters. What were these beauties thinking?
