What is this directly above her vent ?

How large are the rocks? I will find out tomorrow.
I will see the x-rays or what the vet gets out of her.
I told my husband no rocks in the yard when he put
pallet steps up to the coop. I don't like rocks it is hard for the
girls to walk on. Well, of course there are rocks up there under the pallets.
I can only surmise this is where she got the rocks.
I buy grit for them. She had never seen the rocks before and possibly
ate them for grit. Girls are smarter than Boys sometimes.
Update. The vet opened her Crop with surgery.
she had some maybe one or two corn kernels
and about a five inch diameter of grass and rotted
every thing else. I did put in the compost the dried kernels on the cob in it.
BUT with this come the next....she also has egg peritonitis which I think caused
the backed up crop, all those pre eggs in her abdomen could have blocked
her crop from moving the food down. I am sick for her.
On one hand got her all cleaned out as far as her crop
but now how long will she live ? I always get so sad and sick about them.
Her name is Muffs, she had those cute feather muffs on her ears,
I give her syringed water and egg, no solid cooking of the egg yet.
She is not able to move her left leg it sticks out behind her.
If I did not feed her she would die.
Keeping the fluids going to help things move along.
She has had two poos. but none as yet today.
Please say a prayer for her.
Thank you.

Sorry about your hen. I'm so glad that you have shared what the vet found, since many people can't seek vet help. It is interesting that the vet thought there were rocks in her crop and GI tract, but then found an impaction from rotted grass. I have read so much on here about impacted crops, but in 5 years never saw it in my very large flock. This past summer I had 2 hens with bad crop impactions from whatever reason, and both died within a day or two of being obviously ill. Internal laying seems t be all too common in our backyard flocks. Sorry that your hen is having so much trouble. There are quite a few threads about internal laying and egg yolk peritonitis here on BYC when you do a search at the top of this page.

UPDATE: Yes, the internal laying is a killer.
Muffs passed away today Wednesday while I was at
an appt. Funny that while I was sitting in the dental chair
I saw so clearly Muffs laying where I had left her, this happened two times.
while I was in the chair.
This afternoon I took out of her cage to air outside
and sunshine. She enjoyed hearing and seeing her flock. I could recognize
her enjoyment, I gave some pellets on the ground (no syringe) and she ate them.
So this set me up to have good thoughts.
Brought inside with a few pellets and water which she never touched.
I made sure how many I put down so when I came back I could tell if
she ate any. But there she was in this peculiar position. she would have had
to stand somewhat on her only good right leg and fell to the side.
Her left leg was paralyzed from the egg peritonitis.
I found this page https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/impacted-slow-and-sour-crops-prevention-and-treatments
very informative on crop issue.
Thank you for your help .

So sorry that you lost her this quickly, but it is so much better if they don't have to suffer. It was good to hear that she got to visit with her buddies before she died.
