What is this egg?

Check your local laws regarding wildlife. In the US it's illegal to take or remove any wild egg as a lot of bird species are protected. Why did you take it? Some wild birds lay eggs on the ground, and don't have obvious-looking proper nests, but just lay on the ground. Maybe the mother bird took a break and went to look for food, and is now looking for her egg. Best to take it back and leave it where you found it. Wild eggs don't belong in people's incubators.

I didn't know this. It looked abandoned since it's a bit cold and dirty

You always learn something new :) No way to know if it was abandoned, since birds (even brooding chickens) will leave the nest periodically to go eat. And if it was abandoned, it will make a nice meal for some other wild animal. Best to leave it to nature.
