what is this gross thing in the duck pen? *pic*

On a cinder block for scale. it was in the water tub, which gets changed every evening. Everyone seems fine. What the heck is it? Some sort of tissue sloughed out of someone's oviduct or intestine? No evidence of further grossness anywhere.

That's my best guess for the Unusual Things Coming Out Of My Duck category. I didn't investigate closely or dissect, it was the wrong end of the day for science.

All I've read about oviduct sloughing off is about little blood bits inside eggs. - not wholesale organ expulsion. Presumably this indicates whatever problem existed has been improved by this being shed.

re: amphibian - I confess - immediately I did examine it for limbs or head. there have been voles around the pen from time to time, and anything novel the ducks find in the pen DOES end up in the water pan... so I thought they might have dunked a vole and made their own little Montauk Monster. But no, it was just some kinda membraney thing.

Hey that was very interesting, since i have 3 drakes I will now be watching where I step, just in case one may be laying on the ground where it fell off.

I have no idea why I had to look at this post just before eating a late lunch...but my lunch is going to be a little later now too. Never heard of this before, but I am glad I did so I may not be worried if I see it in the pin sometime in the future. They are just like children...we worry about what they eat, how their poop looks, can anything hurt them, etc. Some of it is just disgusting anyway.
