I am so glad you posted this. I've gotten two over the summer in my 80-gallon duck pond. I thought it looked like a disembodied bladder. Or maybe a cool water poached egg! What the heck is it??

I was staring at the picture for the longest time and not reading the posts. I even blew up the picture to inspect it (thought I saw an eyeball). Eventually I gave up and read the posts...that was a mistake. There really needs to be another smiley here, with full-on projectile vomit, methinks.

<--- doesn't cut it.

it's NOT a doodle!! hahahaha oh no. I got well acquainted with duck doodle when one of my drakes put his out of joint (so to speak) with overuse last spring (he ended up fine but I had to tuck it in for him from time to time at the end of a long day. turns out 6 ladies was more than he could manage.) As for the THING, it's not ridgy like an earthworm, with the little external semen canal. It's just a floppy opaque elongated membrane sac thing. I could not tell if it had straw stuck to it, or semi-digested grass sticking OUT of it. But I expect anything digestive would not have been so easily disconnected from a live and healthy duck, so it ain't that! All my kiddos are accounted for (Anconas are awesome for telling-apart!)

I wonder if there can be some sort of oviduct torsion and die-off. Duck lady plumbing is mysterious.

Oh My! That pic is unreal! But I am so glad you posted it, so if I see one I will know what it is. Gross for sure, but really interesting still...

I followed that link to the article, and it did seem to explain a weird dominance thing that's gone on here in my flock (2 drakes) in the past few weeks. The drake that was the #1 drake all summer became the object of drake #2's bullying all of a sudden. I definitely had noticed that there was less activity, but now I can reasonably assume that drake #1 must've "changed" before drake #2. It's like having a science experiment in my own backyard sometimes! But yes, I agree, if I knew how to add a vomit face I would. LOL
