What is this?! Help please.

So, I've been away for two days and had a family member watching over my girls. I got back last night and noticed a bump on one of their toes. Can anyone tell me what it is? It's worth noting that I lost one of my girls to fowl pox last week, however, the other two were vaccinated as soon as the diagnosis was made on the first one. I've had them one month yesterday and they are around 3 months old.

Just an update for anyone who comes across this post and has the same problem:

I still don't know what this was on my chickens foot but it ended up as a scab that came off today and her foot looks much better. It may have been an accidental pecking or a scratch. No harm no fowl!

I am curious, did the hen that you lost have wet or dry fowl pox?
To answer flyhigher, fowl pox is like chicken pox in humans. But there are two avian kind, wet and dry. Generally speaking dry does not kill, but the wet can if not treated.

I am not a expert, but it does look like fowl pox(maybe dry pox).
Maybe wet can kill, but sometimes dry pox can hurt badly too.
If it is fowl pox, then to vaccinate the sick chicken with vaccine for Newcastle disease may help a lot.

The chicken that died had both wet and dry pox. We vaccinated the rest of the chickens as soon as we found out. Her first sign of pox was a day after I got them and they were only about two months old. It was the polish chicken (my avatar) so I think her thin build did not help matters, she got so thin. The other two never got either of the pox and are both doing great. If the spot on this chicken's leg was pox it was the only spot she ever got. Thank goodness!

WOW, Thank you for posting, love to learn somwthing new everyday. Fowl pox is like that only a few will get it and some nothing....
