It's a creepy, rattling hiss. I guess it's a hiss, but I'm not really sure what causes the noise... wings, legs, mandible?
We were spraying it with water to get it off the window screen. Didn't work, but seemed to tick it off a bit. When we gave up & stopped spraying, it hissed at us whenever we walked by the window. It was gone by morning.

we call them a grampus here dh says they are fish bait. bass and catfish like them.
