My duck got tangled in some briars about three weeks ago. She got some pretty serious lacerations on her right leg which have since healed but she has lingering swelling and limited range of motion and is still refusing to weight bear. I was finally able to get some oral antibiotics and she had her second dose tonight, however this evening I noticed this lesion in the inside of her leg which had not been there before! Any ideas on what it is or how to treat it? (see attached photo)

I'm sorry about your Duck!

I don't know much about them, so let's call in @casportpony and @Eggcessive too.

To me, it looks a bit infected. If she was in a briar patch, I would wonder if there is a briar in there that festered. I know for me during Blackberry season, I get briars in my hands and sometimes don't notice until they fester up a bit.

If she were mine, I would soak in chlorhexidine or betadine, clean that out really well, then poke around a bit with sterilized tweezers, needle, etc., and see if I could find a briar. Once your done, then pack with triple antibiotic ointment and wrap. Check daily.

What antibiotic were you able to get and what dose are you giving?

before doing your soaks and ointment hold her foot under some lukewarm water let it run over it for a few minutes the pressure of the water if there is a briar may flush it out gl

Compare the temperature of your duck's legs: If the injured leg feels warmer than the other one it is an infection and you should treat it. Clean the wound, apply a generous amount of Neosporin and cover it with a bandage. It needs to be kept clean, so you may want to take the duck in and make a hospital bed for her.
If the injured leg feels hot and the duck expresses pain when you touch the leg, it is a serious infection and i would consider a visit at the local vet. If a vet isn't an option, treat the wound as described above, but also try to get your hands on some Amoxicillin pills, for example FishMox and give her a high dose twice a day.

Thanks for all the advice!

I am giving her Enrofloxican, a broad spectrum Antibotic for birds (dosing by weight according to instructions on the bottle). The injured leg is is a bit warmer than the other side but she doesn't seem to be in pain when I try to manipulate the leg. I've already pulled her from the flock and put her in a private pen in the garage where she can heal and keep warm. I will see how she looks tonight and if no better I will try to clean it out as you have all suggested. I also appreciate the tip on FishMox, I never considered that as an option- good to know!!

Keep us posted on how she's doing.
With Fowl (ducks, chickens, etc.) generally you want to clean out the wound really well. Wounds do not drain (like in humans) and pus is semi-solid and has to be physically removed.
You are giving one of the Very Best antibiotics you can give. If the Enrofloxacin does not take care of infection (along with proper wound care and cleaning), then I highly doubt Amoxicillin would.
